I loved both of your books. It not only tells about your mother's life in Germany but about your relationship with her. It is a book that will stay with me for years.

Hi! My name is Carly and I am a seventh grade student at Elm Place Middle School in Highland Park. In school we are learning about the Holocaust and tomorrow you are coming to visit. I just wanted to say that I am so excited to meet you. My teacher, Linda Martin, read the first few chapters to our class, and it was amazing. Where did you get your inspiration? It reminded me of when my great great grandfather died in the Holocaust, as a medic, but nobody knew he was Jewish or he would be killed. One more question, did your mom know what was happening when she and her sister were being shipped away to America, and that it was for the better. I just think that she should know that. Thanks and I am so exited to meet you tomorrow!

I have just read this AMAZING book! I cried and it was in school. I have a question: I need two quotes on on Edith's passport and one on the Snow White movie. Well, I really enjoyed reading about this book! I am really thankful for what I have. Thanks!

Hello! I am a 7th grade student at the Norton Middle School in Norton, MA, and my class just read "Is it Night or Day". I loved the book so much!!! I believe you are coming sometime at the end of April. This book was moving! It reminds me back to my family, when my father came to America from Poland. I keep telling my little cousin and aunt to go out and buy this book! It was amazing! Thanks so much! Can't wait to meet you!

Hi Fern, It has now been quite a few years since you and Sam Harris presented your books at the Union League Club. That was an incredible event. I would like to invite you to join us for an event with Howard Reich for his film and discussion at the Union League Club on Monday April 11th at 11:00 a.m. Please feel free to email me and I can give you more information about the event. I look forward to reconnecting with you! Denny

I would love to be able to recommend your book Motherland to my reading group and was hoping to be able to include you personally in our discussion. We meet monthly, usually the 2nd Thursday, at 7:30, in the Wilmette/Winnetka area. I was hoping we might be able to find a mutually agreeable time - March 10, April 7 or May 12? Although most of us work, few of us travel and can be flexible regarding the date and time. Look forward to hearing from you and reading your book!

Fern, thanks so much for coming to Texas today and sharing with our students. I had students rushing to the library to get a copy of your book after you spoke! Please tell your mother "thank you," for her willingness to share her story with you, and thank YOU for your dedication in passing her story along to the next generation. It is a timeless, needful tale. Thanks again!

Mrs. Chapman, I am from Tarkington and I just wanted to say I think you are remarkable. I find the Holocaust interesting, sad, and important to history. GOD BLESS YOU Mrs. Chapman and have a nice day.

My daughter was gifted your book, Is It Night or Day? by a friend of mine. This friend attended a book club that you spoke at in October (I believe) in Lake Forest. I have since read the book, and I must tell you that it is one of the best children's books...books in general...that I have read. My 11 year old daughter loved the book as well, and has since went on to read Motherland for which I still need to read. I think Is It Night or Day? would make a fabulous teacher's gift. I was wondering if there is any way that I could have you sign the book? If not, I totally understand, but thought I would ask. Thanks for writing a fabulous book. It is memorable. By the way, reading through the comments I see that last spring you visited Warren Newport Library...darn... I wish I knew of this book then.

Hi, you actually visited my school, Woods School. I think your books are inspiring!

- Hannah Straube, November 24, 2010

I've recently finished reading Night or Day... then had to read Motherland for a second time. Thank you for this historical account which is very powerful! Thank your mother for her sacrifice; for her courage to do what she has done to make this known. Thank you as well, for your perseverance in writing these publications and making known your experiences.

- Sharon Siebert, September 21, 2010

Fern, I would be interested in discussing with you an author visit to some schools and libraries in northern Indiana.

- Michelle Blank, September 20, 2010

I would love to have you come to our school. Are you available in April?

- Irene Lynch, Principal, Epiphany Cathedral School, September 15, 2010

I started reading Motherland today and I have not been able to put it down. Words fail to express the depth of emotion I feel as you share your journey to reclaim the past. Thank you.

Ms. Chapman, I enjoyed your appearance at the Warren Newport Library yesterday and thank you for taking the time to speak to us. I found your and your mother's story very interesting. I have been married for 41 years and, as a result of your speech, I learned more about my wife. Her mother died when she was 8. She was then passed from relative to relative. When she was 12 her father married the evil stepmother and my wife was treated like dirt until I finally moved her out when she was 18 and we were married shortly afterward. After we were married she never wanted contact with any of her relatives, even those that seemed to care for her. I could not understand why. Now I understand. The memories were just too painful. Also, interestingly her mother's family all had Christian names and my wife never understood why that was the case. Now we think you have unlocked the clue. We wish you the best and plan to read your books.

Last week I re-read Motherland, and I must tell you that this time around (the third) it spoke to me in some useful yet disturbing ways which somehow I'd missed previously. When the dust settles in my life -- my daughter is visiting from Africa -- I'll be writing you a real letter, including (o, the vanity of it all!) something from my opus, which I've at-last completed (mazel tov).

This first chapter really grabs my interest and I'd like to read the rest this evening! I can't wait until I'm holding the book, turning the pages.
