Learning from Motherland in the classroom

NEW: Click here to download the Teacher's Guide

Many schools are using Motherland in the classroom to teach writing, history, and tolerance. Some teachers use the book to meet the state mandate that schools must teach the Holocaust to students. Often, teachers pair the book with Elie Wiesel's classic, Night. Mr. Wiesel's story captures the original Holocaust experience in a father-son story while Motherland illustrates the legacy and the half-life of the war through the mother-daughter relationship.

Here are some of the schools that use Motherland in the classroom:

- DePaul University Honors Program, Chicago, IL
- Woodlands Academy, Lake Forest, IL
- Radnor High School, Radnor, PA
- Evanston Township High School, Evanston, IL
- Newark Junior High School, Newark, CA
- Lebanon High School, Lebanon, NH
